I realized today that not all Account Managers are out for themselves. A couple of weeks ago, I went to lunch with an Account Manager assigned to one of the most important customers using my product. After about an hour of just talking about life and our families, we started to realize that we had much in common. At one point, we did talk about our jobs and the difficulty our team was having in gaining better insights from key influencers in the account. She said something like "oh I can get you a meeting with...." Anyway, she arranged a lunch meeting. I got a tour. I got to talk to a host of other people, and I got invited back. I didn't realize how much I'd learn, and how much I'd validated my current 'need profiles' for my market segmentation model. I hope this is helpful for you.
